The Discovery 5, launched in 2017 and updated with a facelift announced in November 2020 (generally treated as the 2021 model-year update), represents the pinnacle of Land Rover's iconic Discovery lineage. Combining genuine off-road capability with exceptional on-road refinement, it remains one of the most versatile family vehicles available.

Early Discovery 5 models (2017–2019) suffered from some software and electrical complexity issues, progressively resolved through the pre-facelift run. The facelift, announced in November 2020 and generally treated as the 2021 model-year update, introduced the Pivi Pro infotainment, the D250/D300 powertrain range and revised suspension — but facelifted vehicles usually cost considerably more. For HMC's stock and value focus, the strongest opportunity remains a well-maintained 2017–2020 Discovery 5 with the 3.0-litre diesel engine; a high-specification, well-maintained pre-facelift example can offer better value than a basic facelifted model.
