Best Year to Buy a Used Land Rover Discovery
Choosing the right model year is just as important as choosing the right trim level when buying a used Land Rover Discovery. Here's our specialist guide to the sweet spots.

Discovery 3: Best Year is 2007–2009

Early Discovery 3s (2004–2006) had more teething issues. The 2007 facelift brought improvements to the interior, updated bumpers and resolved many early software bugs. A 2007–2009 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE represents excellent value.

Discovery 4: Best Year is 2013–2016

The 2013 facelift brought LED daytime running lights, updated Terrain Response 2, and a much improved infotainment system. Post-2013 cars also benefit from a more refined version of the SDV6 engine. Avoid very early 2009–2010 examples if possible.

Discovery 5: Best Year is 2020 onwards

The Discovery 5 launched in 2017 with significant electrical complexity. Early cars suffered from software and electrical issues that were progressively resolved. The 2020 model year refresh brought significant improvements and the switch to the new Pivi Pro infotainment. A 2020 or newer Discovery 5 is a far more reliable proposition.
