What our standard actually means, and what's checked before a Discovery goes on sale
HMC Discovery Approved is our specialist preparation and inspection approach for selected Discovery vehicles. It focuses on the areas that matter most on Discovery 4 and Discovery 5 models, including service history, diagnostics, road testing and known Discovery issues.

Years of specialist focus on the Discovery 4 and Discovery 5 mean we know where problems are most likely to show up. Depending on age, mileage, model, condition and specification, these are some of the areas we consider when inspecting and preparing a Discovery for sale.
This isn't a promise that every vehicle needs work in every one of these areas — most don't. Most HMC Discovery 4 and Discovery 5 vehicles include 24 months nationwide warranty cover at no additional charge, unless the individual vehicle advert states otherwise.

Return to Newtown Garage in Chesham for a free MOT test in each of your first two years of ownership on a qualifying HMC Discovery, plus one free Discovery health check per year for two years — helping you stay ahead of Discovery-specific wear items.
Nationwide delivery available, with your first 100 miles free. Additional mileage is charged at £3 per mile, usually delivered by road with a further road test en route.
We are introducing a dedicated Discovery courtesy vehicle for eligible HMC customers. Where available, it may be provided if your chosen Discovery is still being prepared, or if an eligible repair means your vehicle needs to return to us — subject to availability, licence and insurance approval.
We don't charge admin fees. The price you're quoted is the price you pay, with no hidden extras added at handover.
A Discovery advertised elsewhere for less may not have had the same level of inspection, preparation, warranty cover or aftercare built into the price. An HMC Discovery Approved price reflects the specialist inspection and preparation work actually carried out, the nationwide warranty included on qualifying vehicles, the free MOT tests and health checks at Newtown Garage, delivery, and the fact that we don't add admin fees on top of the price you're quoted.
Preparation varies by vehicle. Some vehicles may receive £2,500–£3,000 or more in preparation work before sale. This isn't a fixed figure for every car — the actual work carried out depends on that specific vehicle's condition, mileage and history, and some vehicles need considerably less.
Warranty period and benefits may vary by vehicle. Free MOT tests and annual Discovery health checks are available on qualifying HMC Discovery vehicles at Newtown Garage, Chesham only, by appointment, are non-transferable and have no cash alternative. Courtesy vehicles are subject to availability, licence and insurance requirements.
Where finance is discussed in connection with a Discovery Approved vehicle, HMC acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Finance is subject to status, eligibility, vehicle criteria and lender approval, and terms and APR may vary.
